    Biography

Albert Einstein is one of the most important scientists of the 20th century. He published his special theory of relativity in 1905 while working in the Patent Office at Bern, which lead him to one of the most popular physical equations, mass-energy equivalence: E=mc². In 1915 he reformulated the concept of gravity and published the general theory of relativity. As a consequence, cosmology emerged as the scientific study of the origin and evolution of the universe. The press raised him as a science icon in 1919, after British observations of an eclipse confirmed what he had predicted about light curving.

His explanations on the photoelectrical effect and his contributions to theoretical physics made him win the Nobel Prize in 1921, however it was not thanks to his Theory of Relativity since the scientist who evaluated it did not quite understand it well and did not know want to take any risk.

In 1932 he left Germany running from the Nazis and moved to the United States. He became a professor at the Institute for Advanced Studies at Princeton. He became a United States citizen in 1949. He dedicated his last years to formulate a theory that compelled both gravity and electromagnetic energy. He died in Princeton, New Jersey, on April 18th 1955. Some say he is the ‘father of the atomic bomb’, yet in his writings he always called for peace.
