    Biography:
Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the highest grossing film actors in Hollywood. He starred in the second-highest grossing film in history, “Titanic,” and is known for his collaboration with director Martin Scorcese.
DiCaprio's career began on the small screen, but he made the leap to the big screen with two acclaimed performances in 1993. Robert De Niro handpicked DiCaprio from 400 young actors to play opposite him in the film “This Boy's Life” (1993). He received critical acclaim as well as Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for his role as the mentally-handicapped brother in “What's Eating Gilbert Grape” (1993). DiCaprio rose to international super stardom and heartthrob status with leading roles in two romantic dramas, Baz Lurhman's “Romeo + Juliet” (1996) and James Cameron's blockbuster “Titanic” (1997).
In 2002, DiCaprio starred in films by two of Hollywood's most acclaimed directors, Steven Spielberg's “Catch Me If You Can” and Martin Scorsese's “Gangs of New York.” DiCaprio and Scorcese would go on to collaborate on three more films: as Howard Hughes in “The Aviator” (2004), a role which earned him a Golden Globe and an Academy Award nomination; the Academy Award-winning crime drama “The Departed” (2006); and the psychological thriller “Shutter Island” (2010). His other recent performances included the critically acclaimed “Inception” (2010) and “J. Edgar” (2011), directed by Clint Eastwood.
DiCaprio is an environmental activist and philanthropist, often donating money to causes he believes in. He has solar panels installed on his house and drives a hybrid car. He was recently cast as Jay Gatsby in Luhrman's “The Great Gatsby” and is scheduled to work with directors Oliver Stone, Ridley Scott and again with Martin Scorcese.

    Memorable quotes:
My parents were in the Uffizzi Gallery looking at a Leonardo da Vinci when my mom felt me kick. That's how I got my name.
All I know is that when you make a movie it's something you have to live with forever. It's not a job I take lightly.
